Welcome to the WebShopShack, a place to discuss the ins and outs of e-commerce design, share ideas and seek solutions to niggling design problems.
The site was initially launched to make use of an under-used url that I have been using simply to run site design experiments and test out new ideas.
From my own limited searched I could find only a couple of blogs dedicated to e-commerce web design, and decided that there was probably room for another!
I dont profess to be any kind of authority on e-commerce web design and certainly dont have all the answers. As I would classify myself as a semi-pro designer with a working knowledge of design, seo, html and php based sites, (although my knowledge of php is still growing).
I cut my teeth on pure html based sites and have now moved on to php based cms solutions, bespoke oscommerce sites and xoops implementations. I strive to create standards compliant sites built to W3C standards, and I am beginning to get to grips with the intracacies of accesibility issues in web design.
In this ever changing environment, it is a constant learning process to keep up to date with new standards and techniques. In this blog I hope to chart my experience with various sites, letting you in on the problems faced and some of the soluitons arrived at, and perhaps offering hope by example to those who can be intimidated by the mnay experts in this industry.
As a self taught designer myself, I know how steep a learning curve it can be to get started in design!
I will be building a library of links to sources of inspiration and recommended solutions on-line, and detailig my own experience with implementing and adjusting these solutions. This will probably include various oscommerce and xoops modules, as well as snippets of javascript and xhtml / dhtml code.
Hopefully, the site will find its audience and some of you will be contributing tips and ideas yourselves!
Credit is due to Michael Hokamp for the site design for this blog, as like most designers, I havent had the time to devote to a bespoke solution for my own site, concentrating on paying customers!
